Just sent a check for 30 more trees to the County Extension Office. Delivery next Spring. Actually some are bushes. Cherry, chokecherry elderberry and Black Hills and Norway Spruce. I have done 30-50 every year since 2000 and have quite an orchard and bird feeing station established. Some damage every year from Buck rubs.
Saw my first rub and scrape of the year this morning.

Same here I've got some that were planted in 1965. The biggest year we did was 1988 the year of the drought not many survived. We also planted some in a fence row which didn't grow years later found out why apparently the neighbor didn't want trees in that fence row and gave them a shot of atrazine. One year we planted a lot I was in charge of digging my dad was planting I think he was getting tired he was starting to put three trees in a hole. Tip don't plant in hollows or waterways the trees will shade the grass and no grass they will start washing out.

I get a lot of damage from whitetail bucks. I used to put fence around the trees but that is only needed if the deer will eat the tree. For rubs I have found that a t-post fairly close to the trunk will cause the buck to move on. They don't like the metal and will find a wild tree that is more supple than a t post. Sounds like a nice thing you are doing. Really adds to a place to have trees.

Those were the smaller cheaper bare root plantings. The 18 $50 dollar fruit trees were al planted since 2006, around the house so the deer will leave them alone. The Lab keeps watch on them 24/7. At night from a glass sun porch and a LARGE yard light. Lost a large cherry tree to flooding, (left the hose on overnight). But got a lot of "biscuits" for my smoker.

All I have to do to 'plant' trees is not brush hog for a couple years,I'll have cherry, persimmon, oak, hickory, cedar, walnut, pine, scyamore, maple and bushes aplenty in a hurry.

I'll try the T posts. I have a lot of them Neighbor (1 mile away) kid likes to earn $13 per hour , Good job for him

When we were 4H kids one year we got to plant 2500 trees and bushes (1960's). Seedlings were tiny. Those spruce trees are quite large now, a few years ago one came down in a storm and I sawed the butt log into 2x10s
