planting turnips

I have a 24 acre grass lot that I want to row crop next year. has been grass for years. thinking of planting turnips with my John Deere B drill. I would not want to till the soil at this point. I it's a single disk opener with no packers. works ok on till land just not sure on nontilled. anyone every try this? I can run my cultipacker over it. don't even know how big the seed is and if you would use the big seed box of the grass/alfalfa box. Next spring going to plant right in the grass and spray the grass. would do radishes but I'm right across the road from the backside of Walmart and close to houses and hear radishes smell when they die.
thanks
Gary

I plant turnips on a few acres with oats in the spring, combine the oats, bale the straw, graze the turnips in fall.

Seed is bigger than alfalfa seed but not by much, I use the small seed box.

No one does notill of any kind in my county so I can't help with that. Turnips come up about like clover or alfalfa, so if that works for you notill then turnips should also?

Turnips can also have a bit of smell, but probably less so than the tillage radish. I don't really know because my cattle typically eat thrm before freeze up. Now, the cattle can get some interesting smells from the turnips......

In my area they plant the forage radishes with an air plane into the standing crop and they come up well if we get rain.
