I am wanting to overseed my present pasture, this fall. I am looking for advice, on scratching up the ground, and what to use,. to apply seed with. I want to put on orchard grass, preannial rye grass, lespedeza,( and some yellow sweet clover, to experiment with, as to drought tolerance). My biggest tractor is a WD45, so I can't see pulling a field cultivator, to scratch up the existing pasture, and won't buy a larger tractor for the project. I only have 8.5 acres to do, and only graze 4 head of cows, (2 angus cows, and 2 calves a year). I have an 8' 3pt tandem disc, that can be set aggressively, and a 2 section, spike tooth harrow. to drag behind the disc. For seeding I have a 10 ft Mc Cormick drop spreader, that I think will handle the two grass seeds, but would not be good for the clover or lespedeza seed. I see that Northern tool, offers a spin spreader, called Brinley, that may be ok for the clovers? can I get any decent results, with this equipment? The rains will start in after October, and I would like to time the work, to take advantage of the fall rains.
