reseeding 8 acre pasture

I am wanting to overseed my present pasture, this fall. I am looking for advice, on scratching up the ground, and what to use,. to apply seed with. I want to put on orchard grass, preannial rye grass, lespedeza,( and some yellow sweet clover, to experiment with, as to drought tolerance). My biggest tractor is a WD45, so I can't see pulling a field cultivator, to scratch up the existing pasture, and won't buy a larger tractor for the project. I only have 8.5 acres to do, and only graze 4 head of cows, (2 angus cows, and 2 calves a year). I have an 8' 3pt tandem disc, that can be set aggressively, and a 2 section, spike tooth harrow. to drag behind the disc. For seeding I have a 10 ft Mc Cormick drop spreader, that I think will handle the two grass seeds, but would not be good for the clover or lespedeza seed. I see that Northern tool, offers a spin spreader, called Brinley, that may be ok for the clovers? can I get any decent results, with this equipment? The rains will start in after October, and I would like to time the work, to take advantage of the fall rains.

Some people talk about frost seedling. Never done it myself, but I believe they don't work the ground at all. The natural freeze thaw cycle gets it done. Not an option if you're in the south, but might be worth checking into in the north.

Does your local ASCS/FSA rent no till drills? A lot of them have 10' drills that would work great.

I am sorry, but I don't know what those initials stand for. I think that if I could find someone, who has a no till drill, then I would prefer to go that route. I will try to research that option. Perhaps someone down south, in the Centrailia, or Chehalis area, may use those units. They grow a lot of hay down there.

8-9 foot field cultivator is a good match for a WD45, and works the ground up better than a disc. Growing up we had an 8 1/2 foot Moline...first couple years, used it on the WC.
