Pumpkin insecticide

For the past few years we have used several different chemicals to control squash bugs on our family pumpkin patch. It seems like we just grow them to feed the squash bugs. I have tried Sevin, Malathion and other approaches to no avail. I was informed about Bayer's Imidacloprid advanced insect killer. Does anyone know the percentage that works well. I have .75% but have seen it upwards from that. I appreciate input on this.

I used a generic version of the Bayer Admire(40.7% imdacloptrid) this year was labelled at 8-12 ounces per acre banded with the seed. I applied it with 5 gallons of water through the keeton firmers on the planter.

It sticks in my head that this stuff was $150ish a gallon a couple years ago. The real Bayer was 3 times that. Much more cost effective than buying the consumer grade stuff.

Don't use imdacloptrid over the top. It must be used in the ground, or you will decimate your local bee populations.

We raised 6 acres of pumpkin every year for 22 years and all we ever used was Sevin. We would dust them with Sevin befor they run and after they started running we sprayed them with Sevins. You have to spray it a number of times during the season.

When I grew pumpkins I stumbled onto a system that worked for me.I placed several Atlantic Giant plants in the patch. There is something about this variety that the beetles especially like.I monitor these plants and when I saw beetles on the Giants I gave them a very heavy dose of Kings Potato Dust.Sometimes I could preempt the beetles from attacking the rest of the patch. If not at least I knew that I needed to treat the patch before I could notice damage and my treatments worked better because I treated before the beetle numbers got high. The beetle damage lets several other bugs and diseases get going so treating at the right time makes a huge difference.
