Basin info on a JD 18 7B drill, SDO, hydro lift added/equip

Thanks to my neighbor, I'm the new owner of a JD 18 7B grain drill. I'm also fairly green to field crops and pretty much anything more than a few plows coupled with hand sowing.
That being said, I've been trying to figure out exactly what parts I need to check to know whether or not it is field ready. No pics at the moment, but from what I can tell, it looks like it originally had to manually be raised or lowered but someone added the hydro lift. Rubber wheeled, all of the discs spin well and seem to be in decent shape, the tail board is M.I.A., galvanized hopper, 18x7 spacing, and so far the only thing I'm unsure of is the flaps above the seed cups. The guide under the lid says they're adjustable to suit certain seed better, but I can't see, or find out how. They could just be rusted in place, or they could be out of working order. I'll try to get pics as quick as I get back to the machine, but that may be a few days. The label with the serial number only says 18 7B 001991N, and I can't seem to dig up the year model to make sure I get the right manual to finish figuring this contraption out. Any help, advice, or places to find the info that I'm looking for would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Sounds as if you have a model "B". The flaps you referred to are called seed gate or door and should be in the highest(#1) position for cereal grains. Gates have a pinned latch that may be rusted along with hinge pin. Before attempting to use drill take an adjustable wrench and move square feed shafts back-n-forth that fits through feed cups to be sure they're not stuck.
