put this on tractor talk but I guess nobody there farms. now we are up to 9.25 fall delivery for beans, has anybody contracted yet? corn still 3.50 fall delivery

around here farming is a gamble, in the bag or 1' tall mother nature can still wipe you out, have already cut my corn ground down to plant more beans and yes I have contracted already

I've heard guys well contract when they have enough to cover imput cost and make a little. Then most guys will contract 1/2 that way you can be sure of some of your income.

I went through a divorce and when finalized I owed the ex a quit a bit, so off to the banker to get a operating loan so could put in corn, this was 2012, he said only way he could do it was if I contracted enough to cover the loan, well I did before I even planted the way he wanted, that went well! We had a drought and didn't get enough corn to cover the contract, looked at my options, sold what corn I got to another elevator then had to buy out the contract! WHAT A JOKE!!! Thanks Banker!!! I got enough from my crop insurance was enough to cover it, but left me not liking bankers, and if I ever have to contract again, the grain is going to be in the bin so I know what I have got! You can't believe the size of the check I had to write to buy out a contract, I could have bought a new car!

When it hit 9.25 I contracted 3000 bushels. I hate to do too much not knowing what the year will be. I can always bin it and hang onto it. This morning I took in the last load of last year's beans. It's a pain in the rear but I did fine on them. It rained a little today but I'm not convinced we will have enough rain to make a good crop.
