I ordered some honey bees this year. Been wanting bees since I was a kid. They should be here in about a month. Hopefully everything goes good.

I have hives waiting for 2 years. I want to catch a wild local swarm, less chance of disease. I need to get on the swarm list with the local beekeeping asssn.

i have bees due in april for my second hive. last year i started with a nuc and they are doing well. this year i have 3 lbs of bees and a queen ordered. be sure to feed the bees when you place them in the new hive so they get a good start.

I wish I could still work with bees. Shoot we still have a bunch of bee keeping supplies from years ago. But years ago I got stung well over 150 times and due to that I can not work with bees but loved doing it and there is nothing better then some home spun out raw honey. I still ave an extractor to boot. So if I can be of any help feel free to ask

rich, a friend of mine is a beekeeper and she is allergiic to the stings, so she carries an epi-pen with her.

Ya she might get by that way but I do not use an epi-pen so not sure I could get by even if I had one

Trucker down the road hauls bees got to 2 refrigerator trucks with doors on side also has flat bed ready to start hauling . It's interesting to here his stories

Friend of mine was a 4th generation beekeeper. was up to 1000 hives at one point and knew everything and was an apitherapist. he went west of here to pick up some bees and turned out they were the africanized kind and they attacked him as soon as he was in the driveway on the property when he went to have a look. suffers over 200 stings and was taken to the hospital after he collapsed on the road. He suffered a few symptoms after that like eyes would water continuously and other things. he actually started eating bees. just pill the stingers and eat them maybe 3 or 4 and that relieved his problems for a few months at a time

many of the bee colonies in the southern states are becoming africanized. so far the africanized bees cannot tolerate the colder norther climates. they are a way more agressive bee, but they are highly disease resistant and can tolerate varroa mites. many beekeepes are keeping the african colonies, they are good honey producers, but you need to be more cautious managing them.

Michael, we have been keeping them at least 15 years, maybe longer. You really need 2 hives to start out. If something goes wrong with 1 hopefully you could use bees out of the other one to keep it going. . will try again to double our bee yard this year. Keep a good check on your mite count. They will drastically shorten the life of your hive. If you have any questions I usually read the Allis Chalmers board, will do my best to help.
