spray nozzles

wanting to set my planter up to spray pre emerge down behind the planter. I plant on 36" rows and most nozzles are suppose to be 20" apart. trouble I see with that is I'd have to step over the bar behind the planter to fill it. is there a nozzle made that sprays 18" wide so I could get by with just 4 (it's a 4 row planter)

Put the 20 inch nozzle a few inches closer to the ground and either lower the volume or add more water in a 18/20th ratio?

are you wanting a band or broadcast coverage?,the ones around here use use a flood jet or equivalent directly over the row getting a broadcast coverage the width of the planter and half the middle on each side of the planter

I would plant when I want to plant and spray when I want to spray.

Not at the same time.

It is bad enough keeping an eye on the planter let alone wondering if the sprayer is working right back there where you can't see.

was thinking about that also. Son said that too. found some nozzles. Maybe have to add a backup camera...just a few more things to watch. ha

There are nozzles to do that but I don't remember the type. I have friends do what you want to do and it works. We used to use red Ball monitors to detect plugged screens or monitors. They don't make Red Balls anymore but someone makes ones just like them that do the same thing.

Redball brand products are very much alive and well. Shoup's is just one of several places that sell them.

Study the spray pattern of Tee Jet flat fan nozzles. They are available in various output volumes and different angles. By studying their 65 degree, 80 degree, and 110 degree nozzles you should be able to select one that fits your application with varying mounting heights. A test spray pattern on concrete or asphalt should determine your spray width. For field application and its variables selecting between 18 and 20 inch spray width is splitting hairs in my mind.

I agree with Gary. Better off to spray with a separate rig. Then you can spray it later if you need to. And what about bugs?. But our sprayer has 30" centers. Just need to raise tips a bit and figure it will spray 1/2 as much as a 15" on chart. In the past we sprayed with the planter on 38" centers just had one tip over each row. Used a flood tip. But absolutely couldnt get much corn or beans planted. The planting window is narrow.
