Clearing land

I bought the 10 acre lot next to my home a few months ago. I got the pines cut back in December and we started clearing this week. The plan is to grade it as level as we can and use this for a strawberry patch. Gonna have to move a lot of dirt!

Are you going to push top soil and sub soil back and then level it and push top soil and sub soil back over it after leveling it? We took several hills out on seven acres a number a years ago . We put top soil in one pile and sub soil in another pile and then took out 7,000 cubic yards of sand and then put sub soil down and put top soil back and farmed it the next year. My house sets in this field now and here are pictures of my yard that use to be a 25 foot hill.

We think we can support 2-3 acres of strawberries for a U-pick operation and allow us to rotate planted areas.
D beatty, yes we are going to move the topsoil off. Nothing but red clay under a few inches topsoil.

Be sure to call it an all natural, organic strawberry patch when you are done. ;)

If I tried to clear and level a patch of my grain farm, 4 different govt agencies would be showing up with handcuffs......

Just funny how rural and country preceptions are, good luck with the strawberries, will be a way to fill your summers!

Not sure where your located but around here
people will pay you about what you have into them.
Strawberries are labor intensive. Do you have a
market? It takes time to build clients.

cause this is for ag use no permits were required. I'm not an organic farm and have no intentions of being one. As far as customer base, I'm in the eastern edge of metro Atlanta and over 2 million people live within 50 miles of my place. The buy local is big right now so demand is there.

When I was growing up we had 20 acres of strawberries but all work was done manually-no weed control but a hoe. We picked and hired pickers
and sold on the open market. Not like it is today by any stretch. Good luck on your enterprise.

Got a few updated pictures. We had to rent a dump truck to move the stumps to the back and move topsoil. I bought a Dresser 412B a few months ago and it got its first workout today. The dogs are just along for the ride.

A few updated pictures. We are making up to a 9 foot cut at the top of the hill and moving it down to the bottom. We are installing a pipe to move water across so the middle can be leveled. Its looking like there will have to be 3 levels across the property. Questions or comments are welcome.
