Verticle tillage/HP?

Hello: I'd like to get into vertical tillage and wondered if anyone new of a manufacturer that made a unit for @ a 70 to 80HP tractor? I run two IH 660D tractors and I wonder why the vertical tillage tools require so much horsepower? Seems like they'd pull easier than a plow? Any help appreciated! Thank You in advance.

From what I understand the relatively high power requirements for many vertical tillage tools is due to the fast operating speeds. Exerting a given drawbar pull at 8 mph takes twice the horsepower as pulling the same load at 4 mph. Going slower than what the manufacturer specifies could result in poor performance with limited benefits.

Coupled with flowing a bit deeper, and wanting to shatter the plow pan/ hard pan layer. They are designed not to disturb the surface much, but really shatter up the layer 8 or so inches deep.

As you say they shatter better, work better if you are moving faster, which takes the hp too.

Takes some hp to accomplish all that.

for them to do there thing they need speed, and simply put to maintain speed takes power whether on the road or in the field (speed means power) that fad already went thru my area from what see now. the hated tandem disc of few years back is now back in demand

Find a great planes 15 ft no-till drill. Just leave the drill up and wala! There you go. If can't pull it in 4th start taking coulters off.
