Corn silage production cost

Getting my tax receipts in order and calculated my direct out of pocket costs on my 2015 corn silage crop, including land tax it works out to 58
dollars per ton on the dry matter basis. I have been thinking about switching to all hay but now may increase my corn acres instead.

I am guessing that includes planting and all? 200 bushel corn they say would be 8 ton of silage dry matter, that equals about 500 per acre, sounds in line, lot of money isn't it! LOL

I figured on 6 tons of DM per acre but that is all out of pocket cash costs except the feeding out, of course I don't calculate my labor or depreciation on mostly 40 plus year old tractors and equipment or charge myself for the use of the land like the University spread sheets ask for.

And not to mention sileage gives you such healthy animals. I hated doing sileage as a kid, but if I had the time I would feed sileage again. That was hours a day. It sure is easier to put bales in the feeders from the tractor cab.
