flail choppiing for the cows

we live in new york and i have been farming a long time today i was chopping grass for the cows last year at this time we were plowing snow this is the latest that i have had my cows out and still chopping grass for them makes cheap feed hope it lasts

Here in Iowa we had one of our biggest snow storms for a while.

First time since 1991 that we had one this big in November.

The one coming tomorrow is supposed to be much smaller, but it is starting to sag south of me and hit more of Iowa again. Originally it was to be north of me, today I'm on the northern edge of it......

My cattle are happily grazing their cornstalks and oats regrowth and turnips. No snow so far.

Hoping things dry up a bit here before ground freeze up.

I have 19,000 feet of tile setting here ready to go in as soon as it dries out.

I do rotational grazing even with some snow I can get through most of the year on grass . When it's to deep I switch and scatter the hay on the field. Mine right now are on grass over a foot tall. One year an Amish moved in from Pennsylvania that year was open and the kids plowed all winter his comment was you don't have winter here next year we had a lot of snow he found out what a normal Wisconsin winter was

We got 18 inches of snow here last week most of it's melted now I still have yearlings grazing stockpile grass otherwise feeding hay on pasture

We got dumped on with rain this late fall, holy cow. Fortunately it was after most were done with field work. Water sitting in all the low spots.

Saw two tile stringer trailers sitting in water in a field last week.

We got an inch or so of snow out of this one. Supposed to be cold, sunny but cold, tomorrow.

One fella has a big field of corn in the field here yet. I hear things, but anyhow it is a very wet field, he was waiting for it to dry to 15% so he wouldn't have to dry it! and thrn it started raining...... And raining. They still can't get in the field, even tho it has frozen pretty hard the puddles of water in the field keep it from carrying the combine. The hired JD combine went home a while ago, a Lexan on tracks tried a few times, left some amazing tracks......

Yup bout 4 BTO's have thousands of acres to do here yet and about 50% of the corn is on the ground.

I feel sorry for them. LOL

We got lots of rain yesterday as well. No snow. 6" of snow last Friday.

It will have to freeze a couple of inches before I can plow in the tile now.

Or it may be next spring before we get it in??
