what to charge

I have a neighbor that has 29 3x3x8 grass hay bales on 35 acres. She wants to pay me to retrieve and stack them at her barn. What do you guys think I should charge? I tend to stay away from undo wear on my stuff, but she is in a bind and the custom baler seem's to have stiffed her.

If this neighbor is in a bind and doesn't ask for your help regular just get what you are out and don't worry about it , if this isn't the case get 50 an hour for your tractor and your time .

If it was me and one of my neighbors, I would just do it! And when they try to pay I tell them not to worry about it!

Thanks for the comments. I weld stuff for them and after a blizzard I dig them out. I have never handled big bales, I'm thinking 600 lbs. My tractor is a d17 with a farmhand F11 with fork lift adapters. I want some ideas on how long it would take? I;m thinking 4 or 5 hrs and there 2 miles up the canyon.

I very seldom ask for any type of farm help. Try to do everything myself. But, I always went by something my Dad told me when I was a young boy. "To have a neighbor you have to be a neighbor." I have done things for my neighbors that did cost me some of my time, fuel, and wear and tear on my equipment but you will never be sorry for helping some one who is in need. Just my 2 cents worth but it works for me !!!

Depending upon what you've got to haul them on, I'm guessing it will take you 5-7 hours....considering the two mile haul. I"d probably ask for 2 apple pies.

Use a wagon or flatbed trailer to transport them from the field and you'll save a lot of time. As far as cost, if she's good to you, don't charge her. If things are very casual, charge her $5 a bale.

So you have to haul each bale 2 miles up the canyon from the field?? Or they live just couple miles up..and the fields right there by the barn?? Makes a difference.. As said before trailer would make small work out of the job.. Also if no trailer can you haul one on the rear and one on the front?? Ive done alot of things for people just because.. but there is a difference in just because and 4-5 hours work with your fuel and wear. Just my two cents.. folks dont really look at what it takes to maintain equipment.
