I plowed a section of my field to get rid of a thick grass that was growing---should i leave it rough for a while or disc it to get the best kill on the grass?----thanks

In the north we leave it until next spring, works up great and mellow after the 4 feet of frost and 3 feet of snow all melt.

In the south it seems a disk is used multiple times now and in spring to try to emulate the freeze and thaw cycle we get up here?

OK--this is in Northern Ma so I will leave it till spring, and then plan on planting winter rye to choke out the grass and weeds
thanks--Dan

you could let it mellow for a bit disc it and then seed winter rye this year plow it under in the spring or cut some straw.

or let it mellow over winter depending on what your doing with the ground after

Depending on the grass you may not get any kill - you may have just cultivated it. Sod definitely works up better if left over the winter even if the grass isn't dead. I always try to fall plow sod with the idea of working it in the spring.

I'd broadcast Crimson Clover on it and then give it a very light disking to work the seed in,that will give your ground some cover until Spring and the Crimson Clover will be easy to disk in early in the Spring.

I was told to cultivate on a good drying day. Like hay grass and roots will dry out and die . Do it on a damp or rainy day you just transplant them. Cheap way to kill weeds
