Windshield crop survey

Drove about 500 miles since yesterday morning, Litchfield south 3 hours to Worthington, east 2 hours to Austin, back north near MPLS and home. (Sort of a ways around paul....not close enough to stop in) Crops throughout the southern third of MN are fantastic! Mostly corn/beans, just a bit of small grains, barley and oats.

A farmer told me northern Iowa is about the same. I understand the eastern corn belt is very wet, some prevented planting. How about other areas?

BTW- an old barn along I35, end wall was painted bright blue, with a "Thank you Farmers" motto...silo had the Culver"s Restaurant logo. Culver"s is a 500+ chain in the Midwest US.

About near perfect here where I am in mid Michigan too. That said,it's been two weeks now since we've had rain and the pastures and third cutting could use a drink, but the corn and beans look about as good as it gets. At least right here in my back yard. We went to Lansing yesterday afternoon. Spotty here and there. Real good on one side of the road, not so great right across the road.

Thanks for the email on driers....

Crops look great in the center of your route as well. 10-15 miles west of me there is a very small oval of crops that got extra rain and looks the typical uneven, yellow spots in corn that is 'normal' for us. Very small area.

The rest of us are holding our breath for what disaster lurks around the corner, but right now, I've never seen crops this even and full. Planted exceptionally early, so potential for a good harvest time. Our rolling hills and wet spring climate and dry fall climate lends itself to 'average' yields, the hills dry up, the bottoms flood out, and we get a good average, but rarely an exceptional yield.

We are holding our breath, lots of time needed yet.

re the dryers....gotta remember where I saw several used small Farm Fans...it was at a FF dealer (cuz there were new ones there), and it was near Worthington. Also, the guy I went to see at Worthington has a JLCO and wet bin for sale. JLCO was made in Dassel, and looks like FF. I could send you his number if you want it.
