cutting seedling alfalfa

I planted a new patch of alfalfa this spring. since I was planning on a dry year I did not plant anything with the alfalfa. just disked the field good and drilled and packed. well, we have had lots of rain. kinda forgot all about the field till last night and went to look at it. Has quit a bit of wild mustard growing but the alfalfa is about 6" tall in most spots.
is it safe to cut this now to stop the weeds from seeding or should I cut it high enough to get the weed seeds but not cut the alfalfa?
Gary

Just leave it, you will do far more damage to the alfalfa. Ignore the weeds, by next year everything should be fine. If it is gonna be a weedy mess this year so be. I know it is hard but just don't go look at it too often - out of sight/out of mind.

I know it's hard not to want to get rid of those weeds. it's like a scab you wanna pick at. will try to keep it out of mind.
