Winter wheat on sod

Can I go in and do a burn down of old hay fields and plow up and plant winter wheat and have a successful crop? Or doesn't it do well on sod! I never grew wheat but want to!

No. I tried it once. My cousin told me when I did it that I was going to find out why I shouldn't have. I did.

You will likely have problems with weeds, even if spray and moldboard. Old hay ground is usually very low on nutrients and likely a bit on the sour side. Wheat likes nitrogen but to make nitrogen work the way it should you need a pretty neutral ph. I think you would be better served to burn it spread lime spread potash and plant beans in the spring.
