my math needs help

using a new to me white 5100 4 row planter this year on beans. planting 18" rows (set on 36 and splitting the rows). I set the planter on 61 lbs per acre using a 60 cell plate planting two seeds. I'm trying to figure out how many acres this field is as it's new to me also. Book says planter is measured off of 2600 seeds per pound. so here is my math,,,,,, 61x2600=158600 seeds per acre. I planted 22 bags of seed in this field so 140,000(pop)x22=3080000*158600=19.42 acres.
here is where I get messed up. I am planting 2525 seeds per pound seed. so 50lb bag x 22 bags = 1100lb of seed on the field. 2525x1100=2777500 seeds vs. 3080000 seeds *158600= 17.5 acres. I got myself so confused I don't know what I'm thinking anymore. help??

There are so many potential inaccuracies building on each other that I think you'd get a much more accurate number by looking at and measuring the field in Google Earth, or having a kid with a cell phone use the cell phone GPS to measure the field (and check it in G.E. if you don't go there either.) Or some other GPS device - there are many these days, you can probably find someone with one sitting idle 99% of the time.

As for the math, just leave out the parts that are not applicable to the seed you are using and it gets simpler. 158,000 per acre (if it's actually working as it's supposed to.) 2777500 seeds, 17.56 acres, pretty much as you got to eventually with the extra fictional numbers in the middle to confuse yourself.

Only other thing I can think is if there's a factor of two for "set on 36, splitting the rows" that I'm assuming you already accounted for in the 158,000 seeds per acre.

Simple. You planted 1100 pounds of sees at 61 pounds per acre. Assuming that you used all of it 1100÷61=18.03 acres.

thanks guys. I know it's splitting hairs a bit and I could have overplanted on some end rows that would make some difference. I was hoping to be close and with your help I think I am.

Yea I was a little worried he ended up planting 300,000 per acre, as he left that step out of his equations, I thought that's where this was going
to be heading!

Have 5100 4row 38 inch rows. Bean plate holds 120 seeds, take corn population times 4 for planting on 38 inch rows,(1pass), Times 8 for 19 inch rows(2 passes or splitter). Used to do same as you, worked fine but took time. Bought a 3 row splitter from a guy in jewel iowa, he makes them out of old planter parts 4 years ago. His phone number was 515 827 5098. Don't know if he still does it. Delivered it 150miles, price $1600. Good luck.
