soy bean population

According to my seed rep for 30" rows they recommend 145,000 per acre. You say good luck at 140k. What is your experience with this and the basis for your statement? Curious as I normally drill beans and have never done 30" rows. I appreciate any assistance!!!

I drill em and plant at 160000 seeds per acre and figure a 10% loss ie dribble on to ground seed trench not closed etc

Anything over 100,000 evenly will make a good crop.

140,000 is a good low end.

Some get up near 200,000 for weed control or tough soils that don't let sprouts break through easy.

we try to get 4 to 6 seed maximum to the foot of row in 36" rows or 25 to 30 lbs of seed per acre, for years we planted around 50 lbs per acre until we found that they yielded better at the lower rate on our ground, here most are group 5 and up

I normally drill at 7.5" and between 155000 and 160000. I am planting some this year on muck, which is prone to mold, so I am doing that field in 30" rows at 145000 per the suggestion of the seed rep.

What kind of planter? What brand of soys? We plant 20 acres of muck also. 1.6-1.9 work the best . Muck is prone to an early frost in my area and we have good luck with a shorter day bean.

IH 56 4 row. Beans are DF 161 N/STS. They are a 1.6 Maturity. D.F. Seeds has a pretty good website if you wanted to look them up.

We also plant DF seed. 1.9. Don't be afraid of planting 140,000. Can you set your transmission to plant 145,000? Where are you located? I've been told that Stine and DF swap seed varieties.? Stine's are cheaper from what I've found. They recommended 1.6 to be in 30" rows?

I am in leslie mi. I buy seed in Dansville. Yes I told them what kind of ground they were going in and that is what they recommended. Reason being that muck and beans is susceptible to mold. Said that 30" rows will help combat that.

My peat ground needs a very defensive bean also. The seed guys always want to push a full season bean, I prefer a little shorter in my troubled soils and low spots too. Got a spot of iron chlorosis, boy dies that show up if you put the wrong bean there!

I may back down my population a little although with cultivating I will lose some so may not. will be interesting to see how it turns out come October.

5400 IH no-till drill 7.5 rows, 180,000 channel seed 34' soil sampled and fert for 60 bpa beans and usually get them
