GPS systems

Trimble EZ Steer 750. Bought it used this spring and i just finally got it fined tuned and working right an hour before i quit planting for the night. Then it rained so i havent had the chance to really enjoy it yet. It runs on one of the WAAS signals. I was having trouble with it wandering all over the place till i put the globe on the front of the hood. (4650 Deere). After i put it on the hood and re programmed the measuements it tracked the planter mark like a dog following a strong scent.

Discussion at local farmers meeting (gas station with table) a farmer had his gps down in a bottom close to a bluff didn't realize it but had lost his gps signal he had an interesting time replanting

GPS should stand for Get People stuck/lost. I have had more then one person try to use them to find my place and ya most do end up here but end up driving miles out of the way to get here.

What did that unit cost used? I'd like to have one to run my sprayer with. But I"m a little guy and don't want to invest big bucks just to spray some alfalfa and some fertilizer.

I've got two Raven units. I really like them. I don't do autosteer or anything like that, but rely on them for planting and spraying. It sure does help saving crop loss during spraying.

I like them both. One is a good deal older but still works well. Dealer support has been very good. There is GPS capability with the new planter monitor, but I just use it for seed placement and use the Raven for guidance

If you have an older tractor there may be interference. I had trouble in the 4440 if the antenna was placed over the radio.

Sorry for the late comeback. I paid $3250 for one that looks like new. My buddy who works with tractor and planter electronics claims i got a good deal.

I have a trimble EZ guide 250. It is an entry level guidance system I bought at the IH dealer.Like everything it has good points and weak points, the worst thing is the instruction manual is on a CD, not worth a heck of a lot in the middle of the field and you have a question, most of the screen commands are in icons and can be confusing if you are not familiar with them(printed commands would be nice), the third thing is the antenna it comes with is not a great receiver, for serious use, the upgrade antenna is a no brainer. I use my unit for spraying, and when it is right it is awesome! it stays on line over hills and un even ground, you don't have to count rows(I still do though) the foam bubbles don't disappear between passes, and it allows you to go right back to the proper place, and keep on spraying if you are interupted during spraying, if you have irregular shaped fields, it will help a lot with skips and overlaps. It can be frustrating, but it was a good buy. Mike

I have only used Trimble products, with limited exposure to Teejet.

I think functionality is very similar on any brand you choose. If you are older and not overly tech-savy , I feel dealer support may be more important than the decision on brand. Independant dealers seem to care more for their customers than tractor dealers that also happen to sell guidance products. At least that is the way it seems in our area.

Overall I like the Trimble units. The touchscreens have given some issues, but I credit those problems to one operator who thinks they are
"mash hard screens" instead of "touch lightly screens" .
