Been waiting to get my spring oats planted. Spent lots of time in the Old Farmer's Almanac and watching a couple of internet weather sites. Really amazed at how accurate the OFA really is. Yeah it's somewhat of a general forecast, but I have been using it diligently for the last couple of years and it's accurate enough to give you a good idea as to what is to be expected.
Rain is forecast for today so yesterday looked like the end of the longest dry spell I'd have till late April and it would be too late then.
So I "Mudded em in"........term we use here in black clay dirt where in the spring you "Mud in yer unyins".
Used the 3 pt. cone fertilizer spreader to broadcast them and that went real well as the drill would have probably gone 20' and been totally gummed up.
Drug the harrow over it afterwards. Harrow is the new type with all the bent up steel bars. It worked real well considering and just about the time it would load up it would pretty much clear itself. Didn't have to stop once to clean it out.
Slept real good last night with that off my mind.
