been in pasture for 20 yrs[cows], no-till corn, spray 300# of fret 100# of 28%, 32000 seed, RR2. g0t a good stand, when I shelled the corn off it got 98 bpa. got the ground to late for soil sample. 20yrs pasture I though the ground would be better than that.

I agree with what the others have said plus you put on 28 units of Nitrogen.

After years of grass more N is needed than 28 units. It takes close to 1 unit of N for every bushel. So you need to up your N to get a better yield.

Deep till it and add more nitrogen and see what happens.

I use 160 units of N per acre to get 200 bushel corn following soybeans, beans produce some N so I am at that 1 unit per bushel.

And old pasture is typically lacking in N, the root mass will tie up nitrogen as if it was corn on corn.

So, surprised he got that much yield, the corn was certainly starved for N.

Only 28# of N? You should be thanking your lucky stars that you got the yield you did.

We prefer to plant soybeans in to reclaimed pasture or CRP. When we do we double innoculate the seeds to help with nodulation.

We brought two farms into production this year, one from CRP the other from long term pasture. Together they were 13 bushels per acre above our farm's APH.

Around here, a 20 yr old pasture is going to have a low ph also. Might need some lime, and more nitrogen.

I've seen beans put into pasture with good results but haven't seen anyone gutsy enough to do corn. I believe I would do beans just because I don't do corn.
