hammer mill from grinder mixer

I have a old john deere 400 feed grinder/mixer that my dad had, but the tank and augers are eat up with rust beyond repair. The hammer mill section looks to be in good shape, along with the screens. I was wondering if is possible to remove the h/mill and make a stand along unit to grind corn for feed? If so, what is the best way to go about setting the system up? Thanks

Couple options come to mind......those portable, wheeled hammermills used to be parked alongside a wagon, and the feed went from the dust collector into the wagon. Other option....take the tank, etc. off, and build a feed box on the GM frame. Then you can park it where you feed it. Maybe a swivel on the dust collector to deliver both ways? Or does the 400 not have the collector system? IDK. I"ve always had Gehl and Lorenz mills.

It has a collector system but all the ductwork and the collector tank is history. I will look at removing the tank and coming up with some type of feed box.

If it has a bottom auger for moving the feed you could incorporate a 90 degree unit like the vertical unloading system on a grain bin....lots of them sell cheap when farmers upgrade from a six inch to an eight/ten inch unit.
