is my wheat going to make it?

I put in a little wheat field, it's only 7 acres and I no tilled it.
Just noticed it's finally out of the ground. It's only 1/2-1in tall.
Is that good enough to make it or did I waste money on
seed? It's been in the ground since the end of October in the
central lower peninsula of Michigan.

Nothing to base it on, but I would think if it's up it will make it. Guess I better go check mine as it is snowing right now.

It might be OK. I've seen a guy west of me plant so late that you couldn't even see it from the road when it froze up and snowed and it came out alright.

I always planted mine an inch and a half to two inches deep. Plant it one weekend and come back the next, it was always up about two inches in fairly dry soil in northern Wyoming. Done at least by the middle of September. I like to see at least three inch growth before frost but if it is at least one inch tall it should make it.

My goal was to get it in sooner, but the beans in this area were late this year. I figured I've blew more money on dumber stuff if it didn't make it, but wanted some straw to bale next year since it's bringing $3/bale in the area now a days.

Wheat is pretty hardy, it should be fine. May not be a bumper crop if it didn't get stooled out, but I've seen weird things from wheat. A good blanket of snow to insulate would be nice, but barring extreme cold and winds (which could hurt any wheat) it should be fine. Bob

I think you'll be OK. I had some winter wheat one year that looked so bad in the spring that I thought of tearing up to plant something else. I let it go because fertilizer had already been put on, and it turned out doing better than average at harvest time. Wheat is pretty tuff.
