One tillage pass usually takes care of it.

If in no till use Gylsophate.

If Gylsophate resistant use 24d preplant.

Should be unless you have some hybred marestail that is resisitant.

I would spray a little closer to planting to allow more of the marestail to emerge.

And don't be afraid to use a higher rate of Roundup. That is how resistant weeds get started. From trying to cheat on the amount of roundup used.

Gary

Forgot to mention a follow up pass with Roundup may be needed in 4 weeks or so to get more of the marestail if this is a roundup ready crop.

Going to beans or to corn? I had bad results in using 24D before beans in my wet high organic clay soils, won't do that again!

Lot of good options before or in corn. Status is great for many broad leaves.

Fall application of 2,4-D and Dicamba has worked wonders on marestail on our farm. We have had decent success with an early spring burndown with 2,4-D and Roundup.

If you really want to waste your time and money spray glyphosate alone on marestail.

going to go no-till beans again next year. i was told to spray valor xlt last year but it didnt work everywhere two farms realy bad with marestail others cleaned up

You can use powermax and sharpen in the spring
Excellent burndown on marestail in crop a high rate of
Powermax 44oz + and add a good surfactant
20 gpa and twin fan nozzles killing marestail is
About coverage they are hard to get good coverage
Because of the small leaves and spiny stem

Around here (SW Ohio) to control marestail we work the ground up. Most of the guys that no-till all of the time have a hard time controlling it year after year, But work it up and its gone for that year. Most guys go on a 3 year rotation with no-till and work it the 3 year to keep it under control that way. Bandit

Back in the early '90s I went to a crop conference, and a weed expert from Oklahoma spoke there. Someone asked her what she saw as the biggest weed challenge for no-til in the decade. When she said "marestail" everybody laughed. Nobody is laughing now......

Marestail is glyphosate resistant. Mix First Rate in with your first Chem pass and it will take care of it.
