Plowing field with willows...

I have a Ford 2110LCG and a 15 acre grass field on my hunting land completely overrun by small willows 1" and smaller (4-8' tall). I have cut all of it down with a bush hog, but want to plow it under to plant clover or similar food.

What would be the best course of action to break up the willow roots and turn the field over for a new crop of deer food? moldboard plow, chisel plow, disc?

Thanks!

My vote would be moldboard, it would completely turn
the soil over and cut or rip out the roots. If it
were me I would have not mowed them and just plowed
them under under fear of a flat tire from the
stumps. I broke land like this before and the trees
go through the plow well. Tom

Yup moldboard and if they come back hit them with about 40 oz. per acre of Gylsophate (roundup) and that will kill them.

Molboard.

Would need a few trips with a chisel to get things pulled up.
And then - they will be up on top.

The plow will cover up most things.

Seems a general consensus to use a plow.

How large/deep of a moldboard to get down under the willow roots?

The tractor is approximately a 30hp diesel - I think it should be able to pull a 2-bottom through this mess.

Thanks!

If you're going to plow, then PLOW!!! Drop that frog down 8 to 10" and turn that soil over. If you merely scratch the surface you will make a mess and not accomplish what you want.

My father-in-law is going to give me his Deere 3-bottom plow and a 10' disc to tackle the project, but I want to kill off the willows before plowing them under....

I know this is a tractor forum, but does anyone have any suggestions for a brand or name of brush killer that will kill the willows, but not the grasses growing in the field?

Thanks!
