krone am242 goods and bads

one for sale local for $2100 supposed to be in real good shape, let me know what i should look for, and what yall think about them.

I know they have been making that model a long time, we had a dealer that carried Krone for years and he sold a lot of hay equipmnet but he retired and the business closed. If the discs turn free and there is not a lot of radial slack when you attempt to rock the discs then the gears ought to be O.K. If you can check the oil to verify it is full and no obvious metal in it that will be a good sign, also the oil plug under the bar gets wore from contact with the ground and if a person has not been checking the oil reguarly the plug will be very difficult to get out, maybe the allen head will be wore down to where an allen wrench will not hold because you usually have to install a new plug every year or two or weld a nut on the plug and even that wears off fairly fast. I have always been leery of used disc mowers simply because many people don't take care of anything any more but if you think this unit has been serviced then $2100.00 is not much of a risk, a pretty accurate average machinery cost for cutting hay is $3.00 per roll, whether cutting it yourself or paying a custom cutter so all you need is 700 rolls to break even and it gets cheaper after that.

LAA
Could you please reveal the method(formula) you used to ascertain the $3 cost per bale for cutting hay?? It seems to me there are a lot of variables involved in establishing a cost of cutting one of the variables is bales produced per acre.
Thanks,Jim

You notice I was referring to machinery cost, upkeep and normal maintenance, knives, wear and tear, replacement money to set aside, etc. I am not including fuel, labor or tractor upkeep in that 3 bucks a bale.
