Grain Prices

Worth what you pay for this...

Lower through September, demand at lower prices and the reality of the poor crop up here in the north will set in and pull prices up a tiny bit - basically a giant dead cat bounce deal.

But how low we go before we bounce a little..... Who knows.

Once a pendulum swing starts in, it just keeps swinging beyond what it justified.

Then, 2015.... Where does that go? ;) world seems to be in a better weather pattern, what does Brazil and Argentina produce over winter, how low can we go? Not that such low prices are justified, but the high prices of $7-8 probably wasn't justified either.....

Again, worth what you paid for it.....

I'm in the cattle business,so I won't make any predictions. I'm one of the few around here who have livestock,so for the sake of all my friends and neighbors,I hope things don't get too rough. I don't want to loose any more of them.
I saw hard times and good times when I milked cows. Right now I'm riding the peak of this cattle market, but I know from a lifetime of farming,my days at the top are numbered too.

The problem I see is farmers buying and selling grain is no longer as important. If you marketed your grain like the CME in Chicago is run you would be put in prison. New York speculators have ridden stock prices to record high levels. The Hedge funds have a lot of cash to speculate with. They probably are going to throw an unbelievable amount of dollars into commodities. I am not an investor, but if I was with a lot of people talking about 170 bu/acre corn. I would bet the big money will short with a
$5000 for a margin short per contract. Add the unlimited strageties to play the market, microsecond trading, picking off nickels and dimes Who really knows which way the markets will go. The market is no longer farmer driven. There are too many outfits like Cargill, ADM,
Bung, etc. That says nothing about exports, imports, the Brazil crop and other countries. It is beyond me. I think the average farmers odds would be better playing blackjack in a
Casino. There are enough of them to try your luck. Looks like my post turned into more of a rant than predicting the crop prices.

My personal opinion is, being on a downward trend at present time, we will continue to see lower markets for awhile. It has literally became a world wide market, very little can be assumed by local situations.
