Hi guys, I am from Michigan and I have a neighbor who wants me to cut his hay, rake it,and drop the square bales on the ground for him.Any idea of what to charge per acre? Cutting tractor and haybine are JD 4020 and New Holland 499, Raking tractor is JD 2030 and 258 New Holland rake.Baling tractor is The same JD 2030 and Case IH 8520 square baler. Thank-You!!

In my area I get a 2/3 of the hay if I do that. So if you do say 100 bales and you get $4 a bale then if he wants it you get what ever that come to. So in other words for every 2 bales you bale you get $8 and he gets one bale

I charge 25 an acre to cut. Baling is .75 per bale, raking included in making the bale. Though around here we pretty much only have to rake if it rains. Generally it is in the 90's with no moisture for about 4 weeks straight from end of June on. Cut, let it lay, follow with the baler 3-4 days later depending on how thick it was.

Around here (SW Ohio) they get $1.50 to $2 a small square bale to cut, rake and bale and drop on the ground. Several guys around here who are quit busy trying to get hay in in a wet year. One guy had 3 balers in his wheat fields baling straw, One round net raped baler one big square baler and a small square baler in the same field trying to beat the rains, He got it all in all 125 acres in one day. Bandit

As already pointed out: Just remember that the charge for the arid climates will be different than a higher humidity climate.

Arid climate: Cut, rake, bale.

Humid climate: Cut, tedder once, tedder twice?, rake, bale.

In my part of the world, I have never been able to not tedder at least once and I usually tedder at least twice (sometimes 3 times). I admit I am only using the old JD594 rake to improvise tedder, but my hay looks good and smells really good doing it this way. I am fixing up an ole junker purpose built tedder which I hope will eventually improve my efficiency to only 1 tedder trip over the field.

In a year like this one with all the rain and tedding plus the weird reakdowns I had I would have lost money if I got four bucks a bale!

Here in Missouri we are way behind in rain and the hay fields are poor due to lack of rain and the fact the weather guessers kept calling for rain and we did not get it so it has also been a late cutting. I baled yesterday and that is the latest I have ever baled hay

I am in Michigan and get $200/acre. Do not charge by the bale, you are not the farmer of the property and responsible for yield such as fertilizer, crop planted and the like.

Msu has a custom rate sheet they come out with every year. Might want to search for it and check it out.

You agree to do it for 60-66% of the bales, And then negotiate a price for his 40% if he doesn't want them.
