Last Planting Date 92 Day Corn

I'm in SW Michigan. I've been planting 92-day corn--not RR. I'm thinking if I wait a little longer next year for the grass to come up I can spray and then plant. When would be the last planting date to get a crop? I see a lot of corn just coming out of the ground or maybe 10 days old.

I would say you are pushing the window after June 1. I would not go past the 5th of June if it were me.

Since you are spraying anyway why not plant a fuller season corn ealier, then spray a couple of weeks later?

You can use a herbicide like Accent and spray corn that is 12 inches or more tall and kill any grass that is there. Add a little Calisto to it and kill all broadleaf weeds as well.

May cost a little more than your Roundup but your corn will be much better planted earlier.

I forgot to mention, that reading your post below that you have issues with Quackgrass. Roundup is not real good on Quack.

Accent is good for killing Quack.

Thanks, IaGary. I always read your responses, even if it's not a question I have right now. Never know when it might turn up.

I planted 98 day June 8th last year and it dented and made corn in good shape. As long as it's just food plots,I wouldn't worry about planting 92 day the 4th of July.

??? Roundup not good for quack? That was always out biggest weed problem. I haven't seen any of it in years since Roundup came along.

You may be right Randy. I was thinking of Nutsedge that roundup doesn"t kill very well.

We have planted to late June; used shortest day corn we could. Around here we have gotten long falls for quite a few years. Last killing frost in August was 1968 or 1969.
Something to think about to think we had 2 full moons in February and in April there was a solar eclicpse. Another solar eclipse in October. I am going to try a find really old farmer or Rabbi.
There is some relation to weather, but I can not remember it

Ya,it'll knock nutsedge back for a year, but it comes right back. I think the leaves are so smooth that it slides right off. I sure wish it would kill it. I've got some low ground that's infested with the stuff.
