when to fertilize ?

I take the oats off for grain so I don't fertilize at all. The oats get too tall and lodging is a problem.
If you are taking it all off for silage I've seen stuff fertilized after plowing.

I don't know if it's right, but I usually plow, disc, and then work in fertilizer. But I only plant 1/3 to 3/4 acre plots.

I really like to work n into the ground a bit. Although if you catch a rain within a day or 2 of applying it it will move right into the root zone with the moisture.

P and k will be more effective sooner if it is worked into the ground lightly, if you are not in an erosion situation it will be fine on top of the ground but might take longer for it and the roots to find each other.

I prefer it being worked in before planting, or else on my row crops injected into the ground.
