garden plants

question about tomato plants been in the ground 10 days have grown a few inches and have turned very dark green almost black and quit growing . any suggestions as to what the cause is? plot is mostly clay did soil test and limed as reccommended 3 yrs ago use 12-12-12 on that area of garden.

The wife says that's too cold. They're going dormant. If it doesn't warm up,she says dig them up and take them back inside. If it warms up,she says they'll be fine.

Yeah the plants are too cold. The water filled tee-pee thing-a-ma-bobs work really well in that they soak up heat in the water jackets during the day and keep the air around the plants warmer at night. They give a sort of greenhouse effect. They are a real PINTA to get filled with water, though. They are supposed to give frost protection down to about 26 degrees.

Grab a large plant pot or medium-small bucket. Flake the tee-pee-thing-a-ma-bob out around it, attack with hose until roughly half-full, at which point they become self-supporting and easier to handle.

water wallies or something orather.. been using those suckers for about 10 years now.. really work nice..esp. when you your 90 one day and 30s lows the next.. cheeze!!

I agree that the're too cold. I use 1 gallon milk cartons. Cut the bottom out, leave the lid off and set them over the plant. Acts like a mini green house.
