Is anyone farming?

With threats of rain everyday here, no one has broken a stride. We are all busy and still no rain.

Very little planting done here.

It has been to cold till the last few days.

Some may have started today except it rained.

So are you saying no one is planting in your area or planting and not stopping.

Haven't turned a tire except to haul manure. Even then,I can't get on the ground where I want the rest of it. Just been getting the feedlot manure off the concrete every few days.
If my rotation was to go to oats and alfalfa where I've been hauling for the last week and a half I could roll, but the field that's going in this year is still too wet on one end. I went up there today, the swamp at the low end isn't flooded out in to the field,so if we don't get a huge amount,I think I can go by the first of next week. I'm still not nervous. Or even the least bit excited about it for that matter.

Going to start chiseling some ground I didnt get worked up last fall. Then probably start cultivating and planting another field while waiting for my potash to get put on the other fields.

Saw tractors in the field here today, mostly east of me on the lighter ground.

Fair amount of wheat, oats and peas are planted, but that is a small percent of the land.

Little damp yet in my close neighborhood.

I would work up the ditch cleaning mess, but I'm still waiting on my tractor, last heard from them 2 weeks ago, waiting on a front spindle I guess.

I put in some buckwheat yesterday. Hoping to get oats in tomorrow. Have two other plots waiting for fertilizer and one waiting for Round Up. Disced down some corn stalks earlier; it's a bit damp to plow but getting close. Hoping to plant corn first week of may or so.

Bone dry and getting worse each day in our area. Since the start of the year we've picked up less than two inches of total precipitation and things are starting to suffer. There's been rain in the greater area but here in our community we've barely had enough to register in the gauge. The wheat was beaten up pretty bad by the cold, dry winter and a late frost the other week and the corn that has been planted is waiting for rain. Could be a tough season if this keeps up.

Just starting to dry out in Western NY. We've got some rain forecasted over the next several days so it could be set back depending on how much. My garden is dry enough to plow but won't be after todays rain.

The good ground was in shape over the last few days, but much colder than normal. Got some plowing done, and few oats in. The marginal ground was too wet to deal with. Just wasn't fracturing right with the chisel.

Raining now. Western PA

I was able to chisel plow on saturday and planted last night. Put in organic Sainfoin/pea mix for horse hay. Neighbors who no till are still waiting for ground to dry out and warm up. Next month I"ll plant my buckwheat and I"m done. The winter rye from last fall is starting to green up, may have had some winter kill on the hill tops. Far as I know I"m one of the first to be in the field around here in ND.

Wife drove to Tracy MN yesterday, said one fella was out in the filed.

He musta been like flies, she said on the way back in late afternoon everyone was out.

Supposed to be 27 for a low and wet in a few days here, so I'm not in too big a hurry. See the neighbor is putting on NH3 this fornoon.

Got to go visit the tractor shop, I'm getting antsy for getting my big boy home.....

Tried chiseling today, still a little to wet. Mud balls and slivers. Put in on another field and it seemed to be ready. Might try to hit it early tomorrow.

Currently I harvest the buckwheat. Haven"t sold any yet but I"ve grown it for my own personal seed. I like to use it with field pea. It is quite sturdy and helps hold up the pea"s off the ground when harvesting. Thus cutting down on dirt and rock problems with my combine. found a buyer down in nebraska but I need at least a semi trailer of product before he"ll pick it up. grows very well here in ND and helps unlock the calcium in our soils. I"ve also fed the buckwheat straw to my sheep. they seem to like it.

Planted this early does it produce a lot of seed and will it come back after you cut it? I have a field that I planted to winter peas and so far it looks like the peas winter killed, but its been so dry here I don't know if maybe they just need a big drink of water. I might add that we are finally getting a much needed rain today. The only experience that I have had with buckwheat is when I have planted it in late July or beginning of August. If I planted it in late May do you think our hot summers will hurt its growth?

With buckwheat you just need to plant after the last major killing frost. around here that's may 15th or so. I'm going early and will be planting on the 10th or 11th of may depending on personal schedule and farmer's almanac planting guide. I don't think it will regrow if it's cut. I know if you can't harvest it in the fall just disk it in the following spring and you'll have a nice thick stand. combine broke and couldn't harvest before snow. If I didn't have bad luck I'd have none at all.
