Anyone used one of these?

I'm thinking about using one of these root grubbers to undercut honeysuckle and other brush that's grown up in former CRP land. It's supposed to go under the soil and cut the roots to kill the brush.

This one is sold by Jones Manufacturing in TX. They have different sizes based on tractor HP. Anyone used a root grubber like this or similar for clearing brush? They aren't cheap so would like some opinions before buying.

I had posted this question about a month ago on Tool Talk but had mistakenly called it a brush grubber, which is different (more of a clamp).

Seems to me that it would prune the roots down deep and leave enough roots intack above the cut for the brush to continue to grow.

Looks kinda light built to pull at a deep depth. If you pull it shallow it will plug with roots.

I would not want one.

we've used similar implements for under cutting plants etc,you need clean ground to start it off or vegetation will fold around the blade making it hard to start into the ground, also vines and grass will hang on the legs if not cut with a coultier.

My buddy has one. In our gumbo it did not want to go in the ground. It would just ride over the top. He added about 300lbs to it and now it works ok. It does plug easy but backing up clears it.

We envisioned that it would ride below the surface and cut roots. Like running a plow. Doesn't work that way. You have to cut under a given brush and back up to clear. Not very fast.
