Beans will produce enough N of their own until you get up into the 70 bu plus per acre yields.

Test have shown there is no benefit to adding N until you get into high yields.

If excessive amounts of N are added beans will grow all foliage and not set pods.

all ready gettin 60-65+ on two 40ac fields soil sample says i need more nitrogen to get to 70+ beans.wanted to see if any one else put n on a bean field.

Seems such up and down results from it. I think timing is important, as well as amount. You don't want the n fixing bugs to get lazy.

More questions than answers, I watch the info about it, and I haven't gotten any real answers either yet....

Although I"m organic I"ve read that most legume crops will benefit from a shot of nitrogen right at planting. Potasium and phosphorus also play a big part of legumes. I would think a fast absorbing nitrogen right at planting and a slow absorbing potasium and phosphorus may work out pretty good.

18 pounds N per hundred pounds of DAP. As to why, unless I want a semi load its my only local P source (18-46-0) and if I get a semi load of P (0-46-0) its 100 bucks a ton more.
