70% chance for rain today and we got a very light snow shower. I sure hope we're not going to have another year as dry as 2012.

Korn, you are reading my mind..Their are fools south of me that have corn in the ground. Right now my whole farm is in cereal rye for cover crop, but if it stays dry until May its going to get baled for hay. We are not in nearly as good of shape as this time last year do you think? All we can do is hold on and go for the ride. I don't think my drive way is wet, just damp.

I was going to post to ask what are you going to grow in the high tunnel ?
I am going for early tomatoes and peppers,cukes, and different spices, I will plant the usual things in my garden, but what I would like to try in they high tunnel is Vandalia onions. If you can think of something I should try tell me and I will give it the old college try.

I cleaned out 2 ponds about four years ago and I am going to bring that dirt up to use in the hoop house, I would like to do raised beds but I can not use any treated wood like the landscape timbers, thought I may price cinder blocks, To tell the truth I have not put much thought into it. I have been thinking about using clothes line rope on a pulley system instead of tomato stakes, I am trying to put that together in my mind. Do you have any suggestions?

I'm having a heck of a time trying to picture the clothesline/pulley operation. I'm thinking old coffin type freezers with the lids removed??? or even refrigerators layed on their back and the doors removed. Since it's inside it won't be like it's an eyesore. Also being indoors, how about untreated lumber?
We had flurries today. Off and on, light stuff, sun would peek out 5 minutes, flurries 5 minutes. Didnt amount to much, tho one period I lost sight of the barn, the flurries came down thick, big, and wet! Was a 5 minute blizzard!
Got up to 31 today. Should be a high of about 25 tomorrow.
Normal highs are 45 now this time of year here.
Doesn't mater if it snows or rains or not, the ground is froze, nothing would soak in anyhow for moisture. Winter moisture doesn't mean much other than the spring flooding when it melts. Our soil moisture comes from April rains.
Long term, we have had a lot of wind. Strong wind. Windy summers are typically drier here, if the wind continues.... Donno what we are in for. The experts say average rainfall, bit cooler than normal.

These are something we are trying in the high tunnel this year for tomato trellising. Run a cable or wire over head and spool down the strings then use the tomato clips to hold the plant to the string.
Using the string and clips works well. This will be the first time for using the roller plast assemblies as well.

In one of our tunnel houses the doors are big enough the cub can get in and the boys use the bedders on it, Then I got couple rows of the black nursery ground cover 4' wide we roll out and it covers up to the tomato stems.Paper mulch works good for wide beds on lettuce-carrots-onions to cut down on weeding. We use drip tape down the rows.We just use tomato stakes in the tunnel house lot easier to run down with the strings then tying. We have done the string way in the greenhouse,Lot more work but you also trimming the plants also. I use green flagging tape to tie the plant stems to the strings in the green house. Interesting what you can come up with as not all farmers are a like.

Corn in the ground already south of you? Aren't you in the KC area? Wow, as cold as it's been here in central Kansas I think the seed would just lay there and shiver. The wheat in this area hasn't really even started growing yet; it has greened up but it just hasn't been warm enough for it to get going.
