Try to catch some college level courses on crop production, and talk with and go to any extension classes and meetings you can attend. Also, any classes and seminars put on by crop production co-ops will help. I have been farming for fifty years now, and it seems that most of the granular materials we have been using for the last hundred years or so are being phased out for a more liquid product, and I'm having trouble keeping track of all of the new products being espoused by a whole army of snake oil salesmen. It's getting to be a whole new world out there.....

I have had to chase off 2 snake oil salesmen in the last month. they are getting to be worse than Jehovah's Witnesses.

The one had a product that doubles the size of your tomatoes, 50% more corn per acre, makes golf courses greener, mends your fences, and cures gout.

The other one was selling a magic organic herbicide.

Jim, are your PH numbers in line? On my soil tests the PH numbers closely follow the calcium numbers since lime has lots of calcium. PH being in the right range is supposed to allow the nutrients to be taken in easier by the plants.

rich ,, my ph is above 6.4 , some fields are over 7 ph , hi ph mite be a problem??? ,, I will carefully take my time and not leap;

Remember that a pH test is a test for the presence or absence of hydrogen (H), not calcium. Any soil test that only gives you N, P and K isn't worth doing. You can pile on all the P and K you like and your added N will just leach away. Pay attention to your available Calcium and sulphur first. You may have to look high and low to find a soil consultant to help you interpret your test, try a person who is slanted towards organic production....Most of the fert reps are all reading off the same page, they've got product to sell and they don't care doodly what you need. Getting your calcium going is the best first move, I proved it at home.
