Poor reporting, as you might expect from the teevee.

3 overpriced containers at $50 each, plus some other products (salad dressing, mustard) from the same company to bring the inflated price to $250. It's still inflated, but that's how you make money off a brand name without needing volume sales - you just need enough well-heeled suckers.

Better reporting: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/entertainment/movie-guide/Oscar+perk+Quebec+maple+syrup/9558064/story.html

Most maple syrup is pretty-much organic, but of course "modern" "organic" labeling is mostly about paying some weasel for "certification" and may have some effect on things you can and can't do, or use, in production - e.g., defoamers must be "organic" defoamers. Those may vary by state, country &/or certifier. Some of the whackier ones I've heard are not being able to use tree paint, and tapping size restrictions that are "well meaning" but also mean you can't tap a small tree you plan to cull "because it's too small to tap safely" when you have no interest in the long-term survival of that tree (and it's just fine to cull it - but not to tap it before culling it. )
