any one every plant food grade soybeans

Thinking of planting 12 acres of food grade soybeans, not sure on the brand yet. Anyone have any info on these or coments. From what i learned you can spray a premerge ,but no spraying after they come up. Cultivating alot. The field is perfect for this because, all the neibghoring fields our in hay.I would like to know if anyone planted this type before and how it all came up. thanks steve

You bet! I plant them every year when soybeans are in my rotation, Like this year. I have gotten 50 bpa in a good year with them.

Do you spray premerge, and cultivate then. What size rows? When you take them in to the coop, how much more do they give you for them?

what general area are you? There are places that pay a premium for conventional, but they are far and few, cgb in Clayton Ia is one. They are almost strait across the river from me, if only I had a longer auger!

Steve I don't spray any thing cause I am organic. What I do is lightly disc weeds maybe a time or two before planting. After I plant I wait a couple of days then I rotary hoe them and about twice a week until they are up in fair shape, then I cultivate nice and slow the first time with curtains on cultivator then cultivate as needed to stay ahead of the weeds. this is on 36 centers.

You mean I am not supposed to eat the ones they roast at the feed mill?

That is a serious treat, I always try to take corn in when they have the portable roaster in.

Tens of thousands of acres here in Ontario, must be non-GMO and IP.. Grower signs contract with elevator, plants their variety, delivers to elevator. You MUST follow their rules for equipment cleanout and variety segregation. Most varieties are white hilum and absolutely no staining. Elevator reps check fields.

Can I ask what do you mean by food grade soybeans. Is it because you're selling them to a human food operation or does it have something to do with the beans.

Dad didnt have a rotary hoe, so used the harrow. Angle the teeth back 2 notches from max, and if the ground starts cracking above the seed row, go harrow. You got 12 hours, don't waste them, if you don't use chemicals you need to be on top of the game right? ;) once the crack opens and green of the beans is showing, you ding them up bad with a harrow. Too early with the harrow and the weeds get a second chance. Timing is everything.

Organic beans wouldn't be so bad: don't know that I would be up to organic corn again in our short growing season. The last 5 years I've been planting corn in ground so cold the weeds haven't sprouted yet, would be hard to go back to waiting another 2-3 weeks before planting to wait out the weeds....

Got up to minus 1 degree today. At least the wind is down, was 12 below last nite after the 36 mph winds..... Spring will come won't it?
