I am thinking about another tractor. I need one that can handle a crop roller, and maybe a 3 point no til tye drill. I have a 504 IH and I really like this tractor but the lift arms are cat.1 Most my equipment is cat.2 I would like to get a tractor with cab and air about 75 horse and can be bought right. I have been using a 1470 IH that belongs to a friend of mine I like the tractor I have it up in good shape, he is wanting 10K for it, but getting in and out of it is a night mare! I have seen those steps that you can get for them and I will probably get them for it, I think the tractor is overkill for what I need. But I just can't make my mind up. What would you do and what tractors would you look at?
 
I have a 800 Case diesel, do you think the hydraulics are strong enough to raise cat. 2 equipment?
 
You can get a Category II hitch, then use Cat I bushings to attach to tractor. Get Cat I bushings to attach Cat I machine to quik-hitch.....no bushings to attach Cat II machine to hitch.

There's no "easy way" to attach a Cat l implement(pins 26" in apart) to Cat ll QH with the attachment points(32" apart)
 
Ford 7700 series would also fit your needs, nice 85 hp tractor, good modern cab, most have the 16 speed that won't win any shifting awards but works good.

I had to look up your IH model, 1470, as I've never heard of that.

It shows up as a combine, which likewise I've never heard of that model either!

There is a Case 1470, which is an old 4wd setup can't imagine you mean that? Those are just cool for the old look and all.

Take a look at the 70 series Cases in your area. The 870, 970, and 1070 are great tractors and usually sell fairly cheap. Good cabs and Air conditioning. There was a beautiful 1070 for sale by Rochester MN on CL for 7800 a couple weeks ago...
 
Paul, I have my head up my keester you could use it for a tail light! Its a 1486. I am also looking at a nice 7700 but its at a dealership and they are pretty proud of it.
 
Animal, send me an email or give me a call. Have a 1466 with cab coming in that be reasonable. Also might have something else that fix you up reasonable, thanks Mike
 
I forgot about the width issue- I"ve dealt only with Cat II and III. Are there some quik hitches that bolt together for various widths? But then vertical dimensions are different too, aren"t they?
 
1486 would be a lot of tractor, but you would be easy on the rear end, their weak area so would work nice. Those 86 from 986 on up were the machine to have in this neighborhood, lot of them still going strong here.

I think IHC could have done a better job on operator comforts on the 86 series. The remote control levers are mounted low(for a tall person) and trans shifter mechanism could be better. Also if equipped with a cab the doors are a PITA.
 
This tractor has a cab and I feel like Tarzan swinging on a vine by the time I get in the seat. Whoever designed that cab should be shot, then hung and shot again...
