Anybody ever raised or have seen any Croplan 5887VT3P Corn? I was looking at raising it for early corn (108 day) and was wondering the good and bad. I did Pioneer in this year and the small ears it made didn't make it worth while.

Had some planted on new ground. It was planted on the poorest hill top ground on that farm.It produced a nice sized ear that dried down well and test weight was good.yielded 152bpa.We had a lot of fall winds and the top of the stalk[just above the ear] broke off.Didn't break any ears off just looked odd.I would plant it again.

would I be looking at a 8-9 inch ear? the book said 18-20 rows on it, I was just concerned that it would be short and fat, you have any photos of the ears by chance?

Your fertility of the soil has as much to do with the size of ear as anything.

If you are getting a short fat ear part of the reason for that is good rain or nutrients to start the ear off and running out of water or nutrients to finish the ear.

How is the fertility of your soil?

Yeah, we only had 75 inches of rain in 2013 so that's a good reason not to have good corn, a lot of the fertilizer got washed away by all the rain, had some good corn though, some not so good. If you find any ears and can post some photos of it, I would really appreciate it, never know what a new variety will bring and how it will do.
