Storing Black Walnuts and Hickory Nuts?

Broke some walnuts a month ago that were hulled and stored on plywood in the old hog house for 3 years.

Most are still good.

3 years ago about the same amount were bad as one month ago.

If you are asking about with the hull on, I have never had any luck cause of moisture after 2 or 3 months.

They came out tasting like the hull.

My grand parents& folks husked and washed them and put on hay rack to dry .Once dry they put them in burlap bag and hung them from the rafters of barn. They would crack them over the winterand freeze them.

Thanks, I have hulled them, washed and dried them and put them on the hay rack to dry in a barn. I was not sure if freezing and thawing for many months is good for them so I put them in mesh bags, set them by the wood stove for a few days to dry good then put them in the basement by the dehumidifier. I have alot of time invested in them so that is why I want to be sure how long they can last since I don't know how fast I will go through them. I spend a lot of money on nuts. Seems nuts keep me going on those long days in the tractor over the summer. So now I have bushels of hickory and walnuts stored. I may see if it is feasible to sell some in the future. Bought a Hunts nutcracker made in Iowa.
