I'll try to get as much info out.Friends of mine have a large 50 acre field thats rented out to a person i work with ,i use person because he,s not a close friend and after work we really don,t associate with him.The owners sound like they want to make a change.I would like to approach them on interest on their land. What would be the right way to do this.I want the land owners to know i'am interested but don't want to break the farmer rule.. which is around our parts Is Don,t take away land from another farmer unless land owners ask for others. So if i ask about it i,am kinda breaking that rule. How have others done this the polite way.. thanks

From what you say you are in the good in my book, but with the situation as it is going to make it kinda difficult at work, and don't see how to change that, the fella is going to assume, rightly or wrong, and be a little put off.

Good luck, its a tough situation. Rented land is only that, person farming it has no claim on it, but we don't feel that way once that dirt is under our fingernails......

The phrase I have used and it works. I have used it under the same conditions not wanting to take it away from a neighbor.

"If you are ever looking for someone to rent your farm give me a call."

Lets them know you are interested without disrupting the neighborhood.

In my part of so. central Mn. that's the way the game is played anymore. S--t on your neighbor any chance you get. If you don't you will not have any land to rent in 3 years. I don't like it but if you want to farm, that's the way it is done.

on my place people belived in the farmers rule.finnally put an add in paper rent went from 200 to 425 i figure lost over 40000 dollars because everybody wanted to be buddied so look at it from his view point. by the way the extra i got will go to fertilizer lime and fixin up the place so both me and new renter will benfit.also last renter without permision plowed a waterway that drained 600 acres counting my loses and moving on
