OT//Oil under your surface

I dont know. Here in NW Missouri,Ive got these areas down in valleys where creek runs that ooze out a clear slick substance out of my creek banks up above the water level that makes an oil slick on the water like you dumped diesel in the creek. Its not still water either, you can see the stuff running down from the source and into the water.Oil oozing up?Any thoughts?

We will have to call you Jed! ;) you got a daughter named Elly May? I'm married, but I'm sure a lot of fellas out here would be interested......

Previous landowners' final resting spot for their not so favorite Edsel ???

OR....

Does the name, "Jed Clampett" appear in any of your family history ? LOL

This is a post, I will follow. Some time get a oil film in in standing water, out back.We do have wells a few miles form us.

No,No daughters named Ellie.LOL! Ive seen these things all my life.Ive been doing some research and found out my county is one of about only 5 counties in Missouri with productive oil wells

fist thing i'd do if you own the property is check to see if you have the mineral rights. if you do, see if you have a local college with a science department that can analyze a sample. as you dont know really what it is, i'd be careful taking a sample. use chemical resistant gloves, and maybe a glass canning jar with a canning lid. it could also be someone in the past dumped some type of toxic waste. kind of like times beach just west of st louis.

Sounds like crude, That being said, It's don't mean there's enough there to mean anything,BUT you never know. good luck.

Farm been in family since 1945,Theres nobody out here and Im related to most of my neighbors. No kind of bad dumping ever hereabouts.Older relatives farmed this place since horse and buggy days.Probably a bigger pain to check into than its worth.Theres gas wells within 15 miles West of here.Active oil wells within 10 miles of here Ive learned about and several old coal mines here.

Maybe condensate or drip gas as its known many places, clear to amber in color, by product of some natural gas wells or natural gas seepages, you can burn it straight off the well head in an older model vehicle or gasoline tractor.

Thats nice and all,but thats not what Ive got.Mine comes out of different spots at different times.I dont have any of that old rusty color like the picture you linked to.My seepage actually runs from pores in hard clay, down otherwise dry creek banks and it looks like your just dribbling a diesel stream into the water as it runs along. This may happen at water level or 3 ft up.Ya never know.I know its oil and I will prove it next time it shows up again somehow. There are 2 or 3 active producing oil wells here in Ray County and I think Im gonna check on it.
