Plow Now or in Spring?

I sprayed glyphosate and 2-4-D three or for days ago prepping for a spring food plot. There was a lot of spotted knapweed and grasses--nothing palatable. I need to decide by the weekend whether to plow or let it lay until spring. Ground is fairly light. I will probably plant oats in the spring. Any thoughts?

A bad job of plowing in the fall beats a good job of plowing in the spring. It's true. The soil will be more mellow to work next spring, and you will have a better seed bed if you plow now.

I have one thought.

Why spray if you are going to plow?

If plowed right it will kill all the weeds and grass. Any weed seed will still grow whether it is sprayed or plowed.

A waste of weed spray.

Just wondering?

Spraying will kill a lot of deep rooted perennials. Canadian thistle and the like.

Plowing will prep the ground for planting, likely not having the modern machinery that can notill.

I see a use for doing both.

Oats would not be my choice, but it is a good plot, not a production plot. I think he will find a lot of grassy weeds competing with his oats....

I just rotary plowed the community garden. The ground today was beginning to freeze, but had most of it plowed earlier. We have bad bug problems, garden needed lots of cleaning before plowing. The thought is to rid the weeds and bad bugs. In the spring it will get another plowing.
