Alfalfa Innoculant Expiration

I bought top quality alfalfa seed recently to plant this August, unfortunately due to my full-time job schedule and no rain whatsoever I didn't get the old grass hay cut and the alfalfa planted in time. This has Summit Apex Plus innoculate coating, unfortunately the expiration date listed is September 2013. Its going to be April next year now, will this innoculant still work or will I have to retreat this seed? There hasn't been alfalfa in the field for 10 years. This is only 12 acres and it doesn't have to be perfect.
 
They should accept this seed back. "Most" of the seed companys have a 100% replant policy anyway. Why wouldn't they take back their bag of seed where they are "also" getting the seed back? If they won't, then simply add an innoculant next spring. Innoculants are an absolute rip-off anyway! Look at the % pure seed on the seed tag. The innoculant will make up almost 20% of the volume! THis takes away from the actual seed in the bag and they are selling you this innoculant "stuff" for 5-7 bucks a pound??? I've also seen the "pre-innoculated" seed REALLY mess with the seeding rate. Usually, it makes the seed VERY slick and it flows through a seeder like water through a funnel. You'll need to watch your seeding rate very closely. You can buy a small packet of innoculant for 2-3 dollars that will treat an entire bag of alfalfa seed. It's your money.
 
Yeah I was surprised by the percent weight that was innoculate as opposed to seed. This is my first time planting alfalfa, I do some corn/beans and always just baled grass. Where can I get the 2-3 lb add in innoculate at for the future?
 
You can get small bags of inoculant from Johnny's Seed. Just Google. Make sure you get the one labeled for alfalfa. Reminds me; I have to find what I ordered for clover.
