Rye or Wheat for Plowdown

I'm planning on planting a couple of plots so I can plow them down this spring. Which makes the most green manure given equal amounts of seed? I'm leaning toward rye as my ground is quite light. I'll then follow with oats in the spring.

Well..... The trouble is, rye over winters, and you will have a devil of a time killing it all 100%, so that is kind of an odd cover crop to put in front of a grass crop.

A nice legume or a tillage radish mix or something like that would set up your spring grass crop a lot easier and better.

But to answer your question directly, yes rye will show up the most mass in early spring.
