A couple pics so far. We received a half inch of rain wed. night so maybe a few more will germinate.
Seed was broadcast and lightly disked in 8/10/13.

Looks good so far. Are you planning on trying to graze this field ?
In the spring are you going to burn down with roundup and no till, or disc it in, or something else ? I am going to try a similar thing in SWND next year if there is any moisture in the soil post harvest.

No plans to graze this field. My main goal is to break up the hardpan from many years of plowing. The radish will winter kill, but I may have to deal with the volunteer wheat that is present. Maybe if the radishes get big enough they will smother out the wheat?
This is something new for me, so learning as I go.

You should have planted wheat with it. Yields of wheat around here planted with radishes are up around 30 bu because of the radishes.

Never thought of that, I've been advised to follow the radishes with corn next spring. I guess I'll find out.

That will work, too. I'm still experimenting with them, but I have some great looking corn on 7 acres I planted to only radish this year. I also have some great corn on a radish-rye mix. The rye was cut and baled for straw in the spring. It's also easy to no=til into them in the spring. It's gonna be interesting to look at the yields- I also put manure on these fields in the spring.
