define light tillage

Now that the wheat is off I've been reading about cover crops. I'd like to plant some oilseed/tillage radish by broadcasting the seed. If done this way I've read that you should incorporate the seed with "light tillage". What would light tillage mean to you guys?

So animal you sinking swimming or way to dry?? Down here I have been dealing with flash floods and super wet weather as in 12-15 inches of rain in 7 days

A no-till drill would be a better option if it's available to you. I am fixing to plant mine with a 5100 white planter using sugar beet plates. I cut my rate down to about a pound/acre in 30" rows then double back and plant a legume like austrian winter peas to grow nitrogen in between so I don't have to add any more. My corn after this looks fantastic so far.

Hard clay ground like I have this time of year, a light pass with a finishing disk, keep it in the top 2 inches if you can.

In loose light soil, perhaps just a harrow, drag.

Once in a pasture I ran a field cultivator just an inch or so deep to throw some dirt around, very light.

According to NRCS I think your suppose to leave at least 35% of the residue on the top and or undisturbed for it to be classified as light tillage. Animal is right that a light disking will preform a good job of this task long as you don't set the disk too agressive or too deep.
